Gaza journalist killed in Israeli attack

A journalist was killed by Israeli shelling south of the Palestinian Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Health of Gaza and a Palestinian press reported this information on Monday.

According to the Ministry of Health of Gaza, the body of the journalist named Ibrahim Muharab was taken to Nessar Hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis yesterday. The attack happened last Sunday.

Muharrab used to work for the Palestinian Daily News, an online newspaper. It is said in the media that the Israeli army fired on a group of journalists with Muharrab. It also said that Muharab's body was found in a large building in Hamad city on Monday morning. The building was damaged in the attack.

An AFP journalist from the scene said that two journalists were rescued along with Muharab. They were sent to Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis.

A video circulating online showed an Israeli armored vehicle armed with weapons advancing to open fire in the town of Hamad. At least one person wearing a press jacket managed to escape from the gunfire. Before this a voice can be heard shouting, Ibrahim is injured, where is he?

AFP contacted the Israeli army to find out about this. But they refused to comment on the matter except the specific place of Muharrab's death and his identity card.

An Israeli army spokesman told AFP that Israeli forces have never and will never deliberately target journalists.
