A gathering in east Baltimore turned chaotic on Sunday night when multiple shooters opened fire, resulting in one man’s death and seven others being injured, according to police.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on the 1300 block of Spring Street, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley reported. Details about the nature of the gathering or the number of suspects remain unclear.
Upon arrival, police found several victims with gunshot wounds who were promptly transported to local hospitals. Subsequently, additional victims sought treatment at hospitals on their own.
A 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital, police confirmed.
“Tonight, Baltimore is grappling with the effects of yet another mass shooting that has claimed one life and severely impacted several others,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement.
Worley noted that investigators believe the victims’ ages range from 22 to 45, though the police statement later clarified that the oldest victim was 46. The conditions of the injured range from critical to stable.
Homicide detectives were on the scene Sunday night, interviewing witnesses and residents while combing the "expansive" area for video and ballistic evidence, according to the police commissioner.
Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene, prompting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to join the investigation, Worley reported.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. Mayor Brandon Scott also called on those who know the individuals involved to encourage them to come forward.
“To those who know who was involved—whether they are loved ones or not—I urge you to do the right thing and encourage them to take responsibility,” Scott said.
This year, there have been over 350 mass shootings across the US, resulting in 350 deaths and more than 1,500 injuries, according to the Gun Violence Archive. CNN and the GVA define a mass shooting as an incident where four or more people are injured or killed, excluding the shooter.
“These tragic acts of violence—still too common in our city—are made possible by the easy access to guns on our streets,” Scott added. “We cannot address this tragedy without recognizing the role that the proliferation of firearms plays in endangering our communities.”
