Protests are going on across West Bengal against the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata. There are demands to publicly punish the killers.
In protest against this incident, the state's left party SUCI has called for a half-day Bengali strike on Thursday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the Indian Independence Day celebrations in Behala on Wednesday and said, 'I am requesting the doctors to provide services in the hospital. Call off the strike.' However, the strike was not called off.
Mamata's nephew and Trinamool All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee said, 'The students' demands are fair and just.' He directed the police to nab the miscreants within 24 hours.
Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy strongly condemned the incident and stood by the protesters. He sat on a sit-in strike from 5 pm to 8 pm yesterday at the foot of Netaji's sculpture in Jodhpur Park to protest the rape and murder of a female doctor. Renowned actors Prasenjit and Dev protested the killing of this woman doctor.
RG Kar Hospital was attacked and vandalized yesterday in protest of this attack. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vinit Kumar Goyal is angry with this. He said, appropriate punishment will be given to the miscreants. Some of them have been arrested.
State opposition leader and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Subvendu Adhikari alleged, "Mamatar's goons attacked RG Kar Hospital late at night. Wanting to destroy all the evidence.'
On the other hand, Trinamool said that BJP and CPM are behind the attack.
Women from various areas occupied the streets of Kolkata last night to protest the murder of a female doctor. With placards, festoons, candles in hand, they participated in the occupation of night movement. Slogans were raised, 'Girls seize the night'.
For this purpose, last night, the women's society of the state occupied the road and held a protest march and protest meeting throughout the night.
